Today, Mother taught the four-year-old
about the pinching mouths of insects. He spoke
with lips drawn in and then pursed out as if he
weren't mimicking the word, but the "mandibled"
insect itself--as if he were another bee, like the
one he held, buzzing through the bag. See
the "segments" she said to him who broke
the word into parts of its own. See. He bent
forward with the resonating queen. "Feel the wings."
Today, the four-year-old reminded Mother
of more important things.
